S2:E38 One Fine Day on the Blue River

The Wisconsin Driftless region is known for its small spring creeks and bucolic, dairy-cows-and-old-barns setting. Recently, we escaped from the Chicago ‘burbs for a day to fish one of those creeks called the Blue River, a small stream just west of Madison, Wisconsin. Technically, it was winter, but it felt like spring. The day couldn’t have been better, except, perhaps, for the overly friendly dairy cows. Click now to listen to “One Fine Day on the Blue River.”

  1. Is there a good site or information on how to fish the driftless? I have heard you guys talk about it, and I looked up some stuff on the internet, but it seems that it goes through farms, and what could be private property. My daughter is interested in the University of Wisconsin to play softball, and we will be going to camps and visits in Madison and I would love to try fishing some while we are there. Love the podcast!

    1. Drew,

Good question. There is no single site that I know of … but …

      1) Yes, the streams tend all to go through private property, but many farmers allow fly fishers to fish it. You don’t need permission. There are specific access points that are obvious and available to fish.

      2) Love Madison. And UofW!

      3) email me ([email protected]) and I will set a time to talk to you and give you specific streams with directions to fish …

      Thanks for reaching out!

    2. Thank you very much!!! I will reach out to you when we have some plans on when we will be up there. Thanks again
