  1. As far as gear goes I think I have all my bases covered. It’s taken me a while to figure out what I like. I also use the foot tractors from Patagonia. I love them. I also use the waders and sling pack from Patagonia. I am also a big fan of the wading stafff.
I think for me, my next purchase is going to be a camera. Maybe a GoPro or something similar. I want to be able to take pictures and video both on dry land and underwater. I think taking the time to capture my surroundings when I’m out fishing allows me to see things in a whole different perspective.

    1. Yep, the GoPro is a must. So is college tuition payments for my two older kids in college! Ha! Guess which wins?

  2. I’ve been fishing about four years now and I’ve learned enough to realize that I have a lot to learn. One piece of equipment that I’ve only recently come to appreciate is quality fly line. I’m coming to think that a good fly line might have more of an impact on casting than the fly rod I use.

    1. I think you’re on to something, Bob. I was so surprised this summer at how a relative’s cheap rod cast like a much better one after we replaced the cheap, level line with a quality weight forward taper. It’s certainly true that a quality rod will not make a low quality line perform better. And for what it’s worth, I’ve been fly fishing seriously for two decades, and I realize that I still have alot to learn. But that’s part of the fun of it. Thanks for your reply.

    2. I agree with you. One thing I would suggest is to keep your fly line clean. You can use fly line dressing and a rag or the moist towelettes you get at chicken and rib restaurants. Keeping your line clean will keep you casting smoothly and you will get better drifts.
